Best Wide-Angle Lenses

Wide-angle lenses take in more of the scene than a standard 50mm view — landscapes, architecture, tight interiors, group shots, and environmental portraits where the place matters as much as the person.

On full-frame, that usually means about 35mm and wider (24mm, 20mm, 16mm, and ultra-wide zooms). On APS-C and Micro Four Thirds, check the equivalent focal length; a 16–20mm lens can still feel wide, while a 35mm may sit closer to “normal.” Wide glass exaggerates space and foreground, so it rewards getting close rather than standing back and cropping.

Look at focal length first, then distortion, sharpness in the corners, autofocus, and whether you want a compact prime or a flexible wide zoom. Confirm the mount for your Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, or OM SYSTEM body.
