Lenses
f/1.8 is the workhorse fast aperture: enough light for indoor and evening shooting, enough blur to separate a subject, and usually a price and size you can actually carry every day.
Our f/1.8 collection is all primes. Everyday and street options include the Canon 50mm and Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX. Portrait and event glass includes the Nikon 85mm f/1.8G, Panasonic 85mm f/1.8 for L-mount mirrorless, and the compact OM SYSTEM 45mm f/1.8 for Micro Four Thirds (90mm equivalent). These are the lenses people add first after a kit zoom — lighter, sharper wide open, and better in mixed light.
A 35mm or 50mm is the walk-around look. A 45mm or 85mm is for people. Confirm mount (Canon EF, Nikon F DX, Nikon F FX, L-mount, or MFT) before you buy. If you need still more light or blur, see f/1.4 and f/1.2. If you need a zoom that stays reasonably bright, see f/2.8.
Every lens is independently tested and reader-supported — never sponsored.
